Colds, sinus issues, and OTC meds

With winter upon us we all deal with colds, sinus problems, and allergies, which means we will try OTC meds until we must go to the doctor. I've tried a slew of OTC meds and they seem to do ok. As I've mentioned several times in my posts you must always observe how your body handles things and how it affects your bloodsugars. No matter what type of cold or sinus meds I take I have to half the recommended dose. They typically package them in twos, saying to take two every 4-6 hrs. I get too med heady if I take the whole dose, therefore, I half it. My bloodsugars seem to do ok with no more wear than what the cold is doing to them. I have noticed anything containing guafenesin seems to raise my sugars more that the cold is affecting them. I tried Robitussin caps recently, again after several years of not ever using the nasty tasting syrup, and even though they helped with the problems, my bloodsugars went way up. So I learned to expect a raise in my bloodsugars if using anything that contains guafenesin. Again, this may not be the case for everyone, but always watch what you take and if you notice bloodsugar spikes unrelated the the illness observe the ingredients in the meds and take note. Then if you notice the same thing taking something else you can check the ingredients to see if there are similarities, if so then most likely, the common ingredient is the answer. I wouldn't say it means to not take that med anymore unless it is causing bad uncontrollable spikes. I was able to monitor and give more insulin when needed.
